Healthy and tasty Mung-Dal recipe

Mung beans are an excellent source of vitamins, minerals, protein, fiber and the essential amino acid lysine.




  • 2 tbsps of ghee
  • 200 grams of mung dal (yellow split mung beans, soaked for several hours)
  • ½ tsp of asafetida (optional)
  • 3 tsps of turmeric
  • 2 big ripe tomatoes
  • 1 zucchini
  • ½ tbsp of finely chopped ginger
  • 1 whole chili ‘madam jeanette’
  • 1 ½ liter boiled water (add more if needed)
  • Salt according to taste
  • 1 tbsp of cumin seeds
  • Fresh coriander leaves



Heat 1 tbsp of ghee in the pan. When hot, add the mung beans, turmeric and asafetida. Then add the finely chopped vegetables, ginger, water and salt. Add the chili pepper as a whole and cook with the dal for taste (remove before serving). Cook until mung beans are completely soft and falling apart. Heat the rest of the ghee and fry the cumin seeds. Gently add to the mung dal.

Serve with fresh coriander leaves, rice (basmati or pandan) and a little bit of tomato chutney.
