Garlic - a wonder drug

For Ayurveda, garlic is not only a seasoning but also a medicine that, among many other things, helps with the digestion. It warms the body and thereby increases pitta, while lowering vata and kapha.

Another characteristic of garlic is that it is 'tamasik'. This quality strengthens attachments and also the senses, including sexual desires. Therefore it is said that garlic is not the best friend of people on the spiritual path.

Properties of Garlic

Antioxidant Garlic acts as an antioxidant that protects cell membranes from the harmful effects of highly reactive molecules called free radicals.

Anti-cancer It is said in ayurveda that garlic can help prevent the growth of cancer cells.

Anti-inflammatory Helps relieve inflammation or swelling in sinuses, ears and nose.

Opens the airways Because garlic not only relieves swelling but also expels mucus and congestion from the lungs, it clears the airways for better and more efficient breathing.

Stimulates blood circulation Garlic widens the blood vessels and dilutes the blood. This improves the blood circulation and reduces the risk of heart disease.

Good blood circulation also improves the condition of the skin.
