Breakfast according to your dosha

Vata Dosha: Warm apple-fruit breakfast

Warm apple is tasty, nutritious and good for the vata dosha.  You can think of all kinds of variations, like:


  • 1 or two apples
  • 4 dried plums
  • 2-4 dried apricots
  • 8-10 raisins
  • 4 almonds
  • 4 walnuts
  • ¼ tl cardamom powder or seed (crushed) ¼ tl cinnamon  


Soak the dried fruits and nuts overnight in water. Peel the almonds in the morning, cut the apple(s) into pieces and cook them in 2 tbsp water or fry them in 1 tsp ghee. If the apple is soft, add the remaining ingredients and heat them for a moment. 

Pitta Dosha: slightly sweet semolina

A warm breakfast of pitta-balancing cereals (oatmeal, semolina, etc.) is also possible for pitta.


  • ¼ cup semolina
  • 1 cup of milk of your choice
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • ¼ tsp cardamom powder or crushed cardamom seed
  • 2-3 saffron wires (optional)
  • 1 tbsp shaved almonds or coconut
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • sweetener of your choice 


Roast the semolina in a dry pan until light brown. Then slowly add the milk and keep stirring to avoid lumps. Add the saffron and cardamom and simmer until smooth (add milk if necessary). Heat the ghee in a small saucepan and fry the almond shavings or coconut in it, together with the raisins. Add this to the warm semolina and add a sweetener of your choice (optional).

Kapha Dosha: Pancakes made from bean mung or red lentils

Also very suitable for lunch.


  • 1 cup yellow beans or red lentils (soaked overnight)
  • ½ tsp roasted cumin seed, crushed
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp fresh grated ginger
  • ½ tsp asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp spelt flour
  • 2 tbsp ghee 


Put the drained mung beans or red lentils with the water in a blender (or use a hand blender) and mix until smooth. Add spices salt and mix again. If necessary, add a little more water (the substance should be the same as ordinary pancake dough). Fry the pancakes in hot ghee.

Tip: add ingredients like finely chopped steamed vegetables, onion and garlic, fresh spring onion, parsley, coriander, dill etc. to the dough. For a spicy taste, a little chilli pepper can also be added. Many varieties are possible that make the pancake also suitable for lunch and dinner.

Also very tasty with some chutney.
